The visual diary

Random, capricious, and nonsensical. If I'm lucky.

This started (on 1/27/2002) based on the realization that the killer app for digital cameras is a visual diary: they're immediate, shooting is basically free, and they record the time and date of the shot (as well as a ton of other nerdy information I won't bother to include).

Most of these probably aren't great photos; some of them will probably be no better than snapshots. And that's OK (although as a photographer, showing snapshots feels kind of like realizing I'm addressing a high school assembly in my underwear). What these will show is what I'm looking at, what I'm seeing, how I'm thinking visually...

I'm thinking of it as a digital sketchbook. There will be lots of half-formed ideas, very few complete thoughts.

Curious? Confused? Drop me a line.

Just a few images this time, cleaning out the camera and feeling the need to update this page.

Haven't been shooting much digitally for the last several weeks because I've been trying to shoot a lot of film... but here's a few images, some just random, and some from our recent trip down to Salem to spend Christmas with Miz Becky's family.

A small update. Pix from a walk at Lord Hill Regional Park, and a few location scouting photos that have some amusement value (to me, at least).

I should be getting ready to teach my digital imaging class tomorrow night, but instead I'm obsessively updating this site. Go figure.

We came back this afternoon from a lovely weekend in Portland. The motivator for the trip was for Miz Becky, Laura, and Janel to hang out with one of their favorite teachers from the Honors College at the U of Oregon, Joe Fracchia. Naturally spouses and, uh, friends came along.

We ate, drank, talked too loud, excercised our brains, and generally had a great time. Oh, and I spent way too much money at Powell's.

Miz Becky and I spent a lovely Seattle fall afternoon at the Bloedel Reserve.

This is a few catchup sets since I haven't been too disciplined about updating this space.

First, some random shots and then some playing around before the Susana Baca concert at the Century Ballroom.

A few random images plus a trip to Ft. Canby State Park and the Long Beach peninsula with Miz Becky's parents.

More random shots...

To Spokane and back again for WEC's annual eastern Washington party and fundraiser.
