Truth

Gerhard Schmitt, Seattle, Washington, 28 April 1998

Mr. Schmitt was standing outside a department store, handing out literature, when I approached him. He was taken aback at first, and said "But you could do anything with the picture, or make fun of what I'm doing here!" I replied, "You're right, I could. But I won't." Mr. Schmitt studied my face for a moment, and said "OK, what do you want me to do?"

After I took his photo, Mr. Schmitt told me stories about becoming a Jehovah's Witness in Germany in the 1950's, people he's encountered while witnessing, and what being a Witness means to him. He encourages anyone who thinks they have a more compelling worldview to visit and try to convince him. If there's something better, he wants to know about it.
